Joey Scouts (Age: 5.5 to 8) Start the Scouting Journey through Challengers and Adventure in the Outdoors.
As Joey Scouts, we work together and are part of a patrol, to complete fun and interactive hands-on tasks.
Having these patrols when we go on adventures and activities allows for
everything to be easier to complete because we work as a team.
A Joey Unit is made up of a group of Youth Members and their Section Leaders. It is the role of the Leaders to organize the Unit Councils to plan, with the Joey’s, what activities the section will run each term.
Joey Scouts that are on the Unit Council can be involved in planning, this will happen by talking with leaders and brainstorming activities. This allows for the Leaders to know that all members of the Unit Council are happy with the chosen activities.
Joeys participate in the Scouts Australia Awards Pathway. This involves the use of the Special Interest Area during the section and the Outdoor Adventure Skills Pathway that follows the Youth Member through their Scouting Journey.
The Special Interest Areas (SIAs) consists of:
• Adventure & Sport
• Arts & Literature
• Creating a Better World
• Growth & Development
• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) & Innovation
The Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Pathway consist of:
• 3 Core: Bushcraft, Bushwalking, and Camping
• 3 Land: Alpine, Cycling and Vertical
• 3 Water: Aquatics, Boating, and Paddling
During their time in Joeys, all Joeys will be working their way towards their Peak Award. This Peak Award for the Joey Section is known as the Joey Scout Challenge Badge.
