Joey Scouts (Age: 5.5 to 8)
Start the Scouting journey through challengers, adventure in the outdoors, and fun.
As Joey Scouts, we work together and are part of a patrol, to complete fun and interactive hands-on activities. Having these patrols when we go on adventures allows for activities to be easier to complete because we work as a team.
A Joey Unit is made up of a group of Youth Members and the Section Leaders. It is the leaders responsability to organise the Units, to plan what exciting activities the section will run each term.
Sometimes, the Joey Unit will have a group of Joey Scouts that are on the a Unit Council. These Joeys may help with planning some of the activities. This allows for the Leaders to get ideas from the Joeys themselves and to makes sure the Joeys enjyo the activities being chosen.
Joeys participate in the Scouts Australia Award Pathway. This involves the use of the Special Interest Areas during Joeys and the Outdoor Adventure Skills Pathway that follows the Youth Member through their Scouting journey.
The Special Interest Areas (SIAs) consists of:
• Adventure and Sport
• Arts and Literature
• Creating a Better World
• Environment
• Growth and Development
• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and Innovation
The Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Pathway consist of:
• 3 Core: Bushcraft, Bushwalking, and Camping
• 3 Land: Alpine, Cycling, and Vertical
